How much does it cost to rent in Odense? Rents in 2026
Updated October 2026. A rental apartment in Odense typically costs DKK 8,750 a month. That is the median asking rent of the apartments listed on Bolighub on 13 October 2026, based on around 350 active public listings. 80 percent of apartments cost between DKK 5,950 and DKK 12,103.
That makes Odense one of the more affordable large rental markets in Denmark. For the price of a 2-room apartment in Copenhagen, you can often rent a 4-room apartment in Odense. Here are the figures by home type, number of rooms and district.

Changes since July
In Bolighub’s report from July 2026, the median apartment rent in Odense was DKK 8,400 for 74 m². In October it is DKK 8,750 for 72 m², and the price per square metre has gone from DKK 119 to DKK 121. The market is fairly stable, with a small increase.
What drives the rent in Odense?
Location. The difference between districts is smaller than in Copenhagen and Aarhus. The price per square metre is close to DKK 120 in the largest districts.
Size and layout. An extra room typically adds DKK 1,400 to DKK 2,300 a month when you compare the medians for 2, 3 and 4 rooms.
Age of the building. In buildings first used after 31 December 1991, rent can as a rule be agreed freely (Danish Rent Act, section 54). Older buildings follow stricter rules, and the local rent tribunal (huslejenævn) can review the rent in many cases.
Utilities. Always check whether on-account payments (aconto) for heating and water are included in the advertised rent.
Budget for moving in
A landlord can ask for a deposit of up to 3 months’ rent and up to 3 months of prepaid rent (Danish Rent Act, section 59). For a 3-room apartment at DKK 8,995, moving in can cost up to DKK 62,965 including the first month’s rent, if the landlord asks for the maximum.
Renting as a student in Odense
If you study at SDU or one of the city’s other institutions, a 1-room apartment or a shared 2-room or 3-room apartment is usually the most realistic option. With a median of DKK 5,495 for a 1-room and DKK 8,995 for a 3-room apartment, two students sharing a 3-room apartment can pay less than renting two 1-room apartments. Make sure both names are on the lease, or that any sublet is agreed in writing. See student-friendly housing in Odense.
